Training courses to qualify as an Habilitation Specialist

Training courses to qualify as an Habilitation Specialist

There are now two main entry qualifications into the profession of Habilitation Specialists, and these are the only qualifications recognised by Habilitation VIUK as meeting the Quality Standards for Habilitation training and conferring eligibility for registration as  a Qualified Habilitation Specialist (QHS).

If you are coming from outside the field you may like to consider:

Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight Graduate Diploma Course at ULC Institute of Education (IOE)

Successful completion of this course enables you to meet the National Habilitation Standards and Qualify as an Habilitation Specialist on completion of your probationary year. You must still apply for registration and ensure you have achieved the relevant braille levels.

Habilitation Work- working with Children and Young People- Top up degree BSC hons

The BCU BSC top up degree is an alternative route for those already qualified as Vision Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS). The course is delivered in Birmingham as either a one year full time or a two year part time degree.  It is possible to undertake the 2 year Rehabilitation Worker course or apprenticeship at BCU and continue to complete the Top up degree in your third year of study.

All new entrants to the profession will be expected to have undertaken one of the qualifications above.
